  4. I just raked out a compost pile that I started about 5 years ago and pulled a bizillian peat pellet wrappers out of it. They don't biodegrade at all. I'll never use it again. Use Oasis instead. Its made from a potato starch! Perfect germinating material.
Thanks for bringing us along. I thought your plants looked better than his did??

  6. @Momma Got A Tractor – You were very kind to help your fellow hemp farmer. It was sad to see how small his plants were when you know how much more they could have been. Keep working at it Dragonwater Farm. You can do this. Best thing you can do to improve is learn all you can. Attend a Hemp Grower convention if you can. They had one by us in VT at the University of Vermont (UVM) Hemp Conference about 6-7 months ago Hemp will grow just about anywhere and in anything, but for good harvests you need good soil. Plant earlier in the Spring (after last frost) so they can veg before flower and they will be 9 to 12 feet by harvest time. By not putting them out until the second week of July you didn't give them hardly any time to grow vegetatively before daylight shortened so they went straight to flower mode around the solstice. Personally not a fan of peat pots or pellets as they can restrict young plants growth as you found out. If your below the Mason – Dixon line direct sow is the best.
Some basics – First make sure your land is graded and level trenched to catch as much rain water as possible in each row (just like corn rows) and prep your soil as good as you can make it biologically. Get some organics into the soil this Fall and adjust your PH levels before Winter sets in so the soil has a chance to build up the natural mycorrhizal fungi before you plant in the Spring
Each year will get better harvests if you plant in the same areas and prep the soil every Fall. The root structure of the hemp plants of previous year will help you deeply cultivate your soil for next year. – GOOD LUCK
